Job Description

Let’s Get Healthy Dudley provide Adult Integrated Lifestyle Services delivered by our expert team of wellness coaches. Let's Get Healthy Dudley require a Shape Up 4 Life instructor to support the service’s weight management programme. Shape up 4 Life is a 12 week weight management programme for residents of Dudley, people with a Dudley GP or Dudley Workplace. The Shape Up 4 Life Instructor is responsible for the delivery of these sessions, ensuring that the content is delivered in line with the Shape Up 4 Life instructor manual and protocol. The instructor is also responsible for maintaining client retention rates and supporting the client to achieve a weight loss equal to or greater than 5%. Instructors delivering ShapeUp4Life with exercise will be required to hold an exercise qualification and plan and deliver exercise sessions.

Sessions run in a variety of locations across Dudley and via different platforms such as virtually via Microsoft Teams. The support may be delivered on a 1-1 basis in situations where individuals are unable to access other support.

Personal Specification 

  • Delivery of the Shape Up 4 Life programme via the instructor manual to groups within local community settings.
  • Using your relevant training and experience to enhance the sessions and empower clients to make positive and sustainable behaviour changes.
  • Effectively managing weekly groups by providing support to participants to improve their behaviour and take responsibility for losing weight through the use of motivational interviewing, negotiating and empathic skills.
  • Making sessions interactive and leading group discussion around various topics within the Shape Up 4 Life manual such as portion sizes and food labelling.
  • Taking and recording anthropometric measurements such as height, weight, waist circumference and blood pressure
  • Completing appropriate paperwork such as dietary analysis questionnaire, physical activity questionnaire and evaluation forms.
  • Collect and record data in a correct and timely manner using inhouse data recording systems (such as Eat4Health and the Integrated Health System)
  • Ensure client confidentiality and follow Information Governance guidelines
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly updates and reports.
  • Identify areas of improvement and work with service managers on how to address these
  • Follow up with clients at 6 and 12 months to collect data in line with Public Health England requirements.
  • Participating in any necessary training programmes and take responsibility for own development, learning and performance
  • To represent S4H in a professional manner, acting as an advocate for the organisation at all times.
  • Flexible working hours will include scheduled weekend and evening work.
  • Own transport required in order to travel to various locations within the Dudley Borough.

Education and Qualification

Essential

Professional Qualification in Nutrition/ Physical Activity

Desirable

Level 3 Personal training

Level 2 Gym instructor or Exercise to Music

Level 3 GP Exercise Referral

Knowledge and Special Skills

Essential 

Excellent group leadership and communication skills

Awareness of data protection and safeguarding protocols.

Knowledge of behaviour change

Able to write reports including numerical data.

Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent influencing and negotiating skills

Knowledge and experience of public health issues related to the service.
