Sports Scientist – Women, GB Rowing Team.

 GBRT is searching for a multi-skilled, hard working practitioner to fill the role of Sports Scientist. The successful candidate will support the world’s best rowers in the training environment, monitoring sessions, collecting data and supporting the analysis of on water performance. We are looking for a hard worker who will be an embedded support team member of the women’s squad, turning their hand to a variety of day to day tasks in support of athletes and coaches.

Job Purpose:

To support the delivery of physiological and biomechanical monitoring, training load capture, data management and equipment maintenance that enable the GBRT to deliver its performance potential at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.


Key responsibilities:

• Provide support to the GBRT Olympic Women’s programme coaches and rowers with land and water-based monitoring.
• Collect and store physiology training and monitoring data in accordance with GBRT good practice in data management.
• Complete data entry, analysis and feedback of routine training information.
• Maintain physiology & biomechanics equipment. This will include the regular servicing of equipment alongside consumable stock checking and ordering.
• Conduct physiological testing and monitoring as agreed with the coaches and Performance Science Lead including but not limited to blood lactate analysis.
• Manage and deploy the boat instrumentation equipment as agreed with the Olympic Head Coach - Women and Performance Engineer.
• Support camps with sports science support as directed by the Olympic Head Coach - Women and Performance Science Lead.
• Stay abreast of advancing knowledge and its application for elite rowing performance.
• Any other related work that contributes to the success of the team.

Essential:

• Degree level (or equivalent) in sports science or related area
• Master’s degree in sports science or related area
• Experience of working in elite sport in support of coaches and athletes
• Experience of collection and storage of sport related data
• Experience in the capture, processing and storage of video capture in a sport setting
• Hard worker, able to deliver to tight timeframes under direction
• Can do attitude

Desirable:

BASES accredited Sports Science discipline or equivalent experience
Experience of blood lactate monitoring
Experience of equipment instrumentation systems
Experience in the capture, processing and storage of video capture in a sport setting
Experience working with Dartfish video software


Additional Information:

Anti-Doping The post-holder is expected to be fully conversant with the core requirements of the WADA Anti-Doping Code and its requirement on coaches and Team Support personnel to set a good personal example in this field. When directly working with athletes the post-holder has a responsibility to inform them appropriately of the Code’s application to them and to influence them in following a ‘drug-free’ culture.

Hours:

The post-holder’s hours will be flexible to reflect the needs of the role and, while maintaining an appropriate work/life balance, will include time in evenings, at
weekends and over public holidays. Standard working hours are 40 hours a week although flexibility is required in order to ensure core objectives are achieved.
National and International travel will be required.
